50 years in the making

ESI was founded in 1974 by Robert Elliott and Richard LaPorte. These two men worked tirelessly to cultivate a company known for the highest standards of quality, unmatched customer service and treating every employee exceptionally well. Every member of our firm – from engineer to technician, administrator to senior management – is committed to client satisfaction. It is a commitment that we demonstrate daily, in every department and on every job site.

ESI Historical Timeline

1974

Company Founded by Robert Elliott and Richard LaPorte in Norton Massachusetts. Company consists of Bob, Dick and Fannie Sturdivant as the Controller.

1976

Company establishes Norton Sheet metal with 1,000 sqft metal fabrication shop to produce its own sheet metal systems.

1978

Company shifts focus to Design /Build Projects providing clients with intelligent solutions for their HVAC needs.

1986

Company builds new 20,000 sqft building and relocates headquarters to Attleboro MA. New building includes with 7,500 sqft metal fabrication shop and 7,500 sqft Covered Storage.

1988

Company completes first large scale industrial project, Olin Chemical in East Providence. Pushes company into the Advanced Technology market building complex HVAC systems.

1996

Company brings on full time Professional Engineer further establishing its role as the leading Design/Build Firm in the region.

1999

Company completes first large scale design/build Pharmaceutical Project, ArQule Pharmaceuticals in Woburn, MA. Establishing itself as the leading biotech HVAC construction firm.

2001

Shawn Elliott becomes 2nd President of company.

2002

Ownership change as Shawn Elliott, Renee Laporte and James Baldasaro become shareholders.

2006

ESI completes new 220,000 sq ft HQ for Texas Instruments. Fully engineered and constructed showing further design build capabilities.

2011

ESI purchases Royal Engineering in Warwick RI. Establishes ESI presence in RI and focuses on service division growth.

2014

ESI purchases Precision Mechanical out of Fall River, providing in-house piping capabilities.

2017

ESI opens Nashua NH office

2018

Company starts Electrical Division expanding its in-house services for their clients.

2019

ESI continues growth and expansion of all divisions, employing over 200 employees

2020

Company begins prefabricating piping systems in-house.

2021

Company voted Top place to work by Boston Globe and 5^th Largest mechanical contractor in Massachusetts by Boston Business Journal.

2022

James Baldasaro retires, Shawn and Renee remain as shareholders; Company starts Fire Protection Division expanding its in-house services for their clients

2023

Company relocates headquarters to 100,000 sqft state of the art facility in Taunton, MA

2024

Shawn Elliott

President / CEO

For over 15 years, Shawn Elliott has been ESI’s President and member of the Sales team. As part of the Sales team, he helps to oversee and deliver the company’s performance, as well as, nurture and grow lasting relationships with clients. As a leader, he establishes and implements the company’s strategic direction. This strategy includes fostering a culture in the workplace that ensures the entire team understands and applies the vision and values of the company: to provide exceptional service and quality HVAC systems with a client- focused approach.

Shawn has been a member of the ESI family and part of the HVAC industry for over 20 years. He earned his Bachelor’s degree at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and also has education from the New England Institute of Technology and Northeastern University’s Continuing Education program. He is a member of American Society of Heating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE).

Renèe LaPorte

Vice Presient / Principal

Renèe LaPorte wears many hats as ESI’s Corporate Secretary and Office Manager. She is responsible for overseeing all of Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Contract Administration, and Billing operations.

Renèe has over 20 years of experience with ESI and in the HVAC industry. She is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.
